| Born and bred in Zimbabwe, Dr Percy Sharp went to Ondersterpoort later on in life. After graduating, he returned to his family farm in Beatrice where as a young person Doug Bruce got to know him.
Percy ran a dairy as well as offering a veterinary service to the people in his area. In the 80s he went into embryo transfer, in its early days. He spent 6 months in the USA learning about his trade. Following land reform he moved to New Zealand where he works with some of the biggest dairies in the country, providing IVF embryo services. Percy has conducted a number of programmes with BVG in Zimbabwe, carrying out IVF and MOET embryo transfer and helping us develop those skills for the Practice. |
Prof Jan Myburg qualified in 1984 at Ondersterpoort Veterinary Faculty.
He subsequently specialised in ruminant medicine in which he attained his Masters degree. He has worked in the Toxicology Department at Oondersterport and more recently has become involved in crocodile research and veterinary medicine. Jan is a friend and Associate of the Bargrove Veterinary Group and provides consultancy services for us in his areas of expertise when the need arises. |
Doctor Japie Jackson qualified at Ondersterpoort Veterinary Faculty in 1954. Japie turned 90 in September 2021. He continues to be active in the veterinary field, conducting pregnancy detections and drawing upon his wisdom and understanding gained over a lifetime, to advise farmers, particularly beef farmers, on their production. Japie brings to BVG his wealth of experience in grazing management and cattle production, and his deep knowledge of the veldt and how to utilise it maximally. He provides advisory services for BVG on our Beef Plan and Dairy Plan. |
Dr Karl Van Laeren qualified in 1980 at Ondersterpoort Veterinary Faculty and has focused his whole career on horses. He started working in Zimbabwe in the early 1980s for Dr Alan King in his Central Avenue practice.
Karl subsequently moved to where he is now at Borrowdale Park Veterinary Hospital. Karl brings his scanning and radiographic skills and deep knowledge of antihelminthic control to BVG. Karl has accumulated a great deal of experience in the equine field of medicine and surgery in which he is highly respected. |
